LONDON (AP) — Prime Minister Tony Blair announced Monday $2 million in funding to back Islamic studies at British universities as he urged the public to listen to the religion’s moderate scholars rather than to its radicals.

Blair’s government hopes the funding will lead to a major shift of the focus of Islamic studies from an Arab and Middle Eastern perspective to that of the plural society in Britain.

Blair told imams, scholars and clerics at a two-day conference in London that British Muslims “overwhelmingly” wanted to be “loyal citizens,” despite attention given to a small number of radicals. (more…)

Now if any of you know me I’m sure you will be thinking of how full of myself I’m feeling right now presenting this news to you. To those who don’t know me so well I have basically always had not so good things to say about this world renowned UK education system, how it delivers for only specific fields of education and not for others. But that’s a whole other post so on with the news shall we.

I’m a big believer in the fact that every Muslim should not only be learning and progressing in the religion them selves but also helping others to progress or enter or learn about Islam as well. It’s a great way to give each other just a few key tips on how to promote our religion better so that we can Inshallah, as an Ummah, grow at an even faster rate. Just imagine if every Muslim were doing just a few things a week or even a month to promote our religion how many more Muslims would there be.
