This is going to be a long series of posts and I will keep them consecutive so that they can be easily read as one. I felt the need to break them down as it was a long subject and i have differed into many other related issues that I think still require a mention just so everything can be placed into a larger picture so you can easily instantiate how everything fits in with one another. Its like me trying to prove to you and to my self as to why we should all be better Muslims than we are being.
People do bend down before their pagan gods that in actual fact have not done any favours for them. They rather seduce them and keep them away from the truth and guidance. Many other people bow down their head to honour and extol the presence of their leaders. Those people that they extol might be among the evils of living beings on earth. So don’t I have to bow down my head and bend in honour of Allah, the Master of kingdoms, the creator of the Universe, the lord of Heavens and earth who can cause benefit or harm, grant and prevent favours, give life and cause death; He who caused the living beings to account for any tiny deed like the tiny spot on a date pit or a pellicle enveloping the pit?
Secondly: No; performing the prayer is never a misuse of time when a erson comes out of an uproar of work or out of the clamour of coming and going of people or sneaks away from the disturbances of give and take or of buying and selling or of wrangling and bargaining or of teaching and learning or of clients demands and then humbly stands up-right on his/her prayer ground/mat leaving behind all those troublesome situations, his soul will be calm, his heart will be tranquilized, his body will relax, his anger will be abated but above all his earthly desire will be restrained. He will the pause for a while; dwell in a few minutes verbally communicating with the one he adores (ie his Creator).
“love becomes Greater
When you are alone
With the one you love”
Then he will earnestly pray for Allah’s help and support and will also ask a vigour from Allah to support him to continue with the virtuous deeds and for patience from the Creator in Struggle against evil and devils. And prior to the prayer, when he happens to have offended some other person by a bad tempered look or by and insult or by misconduct he shall seize the opportunity to entreat Allah’s forgiveness in the course of the prayer. Then those few minutes spent on the prayer shall represent an energizer that provides the worshipper with fresh energy or from another view its like a cooling system for a hot engine that’s just done a few miles.
When the prophet (pbuh) used to become depressed, he resorted to prayer. Also when he returned from a battle exhausted he states: “Bilal , revive us with the prayer” meaning that Bilal shall call for prayer that will revive us from the hardships and troubles of life. We as Muslims should follow all that the profit did as he was the only thing to ever walk this earth that can truly be classed as perfection.
Mankind is a weak creature whose limited energy cannot permit him to endure the hardships of a continuous work. Work he is therefore necessarily in need of both physical and mental relaxations. Such relaxations can only be obtained from the prayer; moreover relaxation itself is part of human life. That is why Almighty Allah makes the night calm and sleep for rest.
How much time does a person spend in prayer?
Even if prolonged at all it will not last more than a quarter of an hour that’s only 15 minutes at maximum. You as an intelligent person, why do you deprive yourself of the benefits of those limited number of minutes occurring timely during the day so that you are sure of obtaining all those benefits mentioned above whereas you vainly spend the good long hours that you’ve been blessed with on outdoor visits and on evening gatherings?
