Many people of our era neglect their daily prayers and consider them a heavy burden. When you remind such people of the prayers, you will some of them giving forgery excuses by saying that they are engaged in some other important matters at the time of the prayers. Others claim that their clothes are not pure to be used for the prayers and that they will make up for the prayers when they return home and change those clothes.
But in actual fact they are telling us and themselves in some cases, lies and they do not end up praying at all. Some among such people admit their negligence and repeatedly say: “may Allah guide us.” Also among the same criteria of people are shameless groups who proclaim their wrong doings, deny Allah’s favours on them and look upon the daily prayers and those who perform them, but yet they still claim they are Muslims.
The reasons for neglecting ones prayers
In order to solve your must inform and in order to inform you must be informed, this basically means research on why people give these so called reasons in order to flea from the beauty that is Namaaz/Salaat/prayer. The question now is: is the prayer a fine or a penalty that one pays just as one pays unfair taxes or is the prayer a binding principle that a person is compelled to obey just as he/she is compelled to accept the political principles of doctorial governments? Does the prayer restrict a person’s freedom and avert him from his personal liberty?
Is the prayer a simple matter of permissible order that he who wishes performs it without a reward and that he who wishes may neglect it without punishment? Does Allah benefit anything out of our prayers? What are the benefits that one gains from the prayer and what are the losses that will incur upon someone who will neglect it?
Too many questions occur in the mind of a human being dictated by his/her passions, devils and desires. When one happens not to find the right answer to the questions, one becomes a victim and humbly surrenders. At this point ones passions, devils and desires will brainwash ones own mind to make one be deluded. At last they will polish and decorate vicious deeds to make them appear to one as good deeds. They will also set right ones wrong ideas to let one hold fast to them. Then they will furnish one with some futile arguments and remote admirable ideas till one commits all sins that deserve severe punishment in the hell fire.
But if one happens to acquire the right and most distinctive answers and refute all doubts and make proper use of ones mind and logic then those passions, devils and desires shall be defeated, belittled and shall become silent.
Overcoming and tackling your own objections
Let us now begin tackling the above questions one after the other so as to answer them and apparently elucidate every single question leaving no room for any more doubts. It’s a practice of handling objections and understanding how humans work in their acts of doing and not doing and how we decision make. The objective of this is to make it as hard as possible for you to justify to your self that you cannot or will not pray Salaat for so and so reason.
First of all we say no to the first question mentioned, prayer is neither a physical fine nor a financial tax to be paid. However, it is a “trust” whose owner remains watchful over it 5 times a day and he testifies to your sincerity, loyalty and devotion to it as well as your observance over obligations and responsibilities. Then he will reward you with the most handsome and magnificent reward for a better custody over that “trust” which is the prayers.
Indeed the prayer is never a tax, a penalty or a poll tax. It is rather a recognition of ones responsibilities towards the, “Creator” and appreciation of his bounties. It is also a good sign of purification of the soul by obeying our leaders and abiding by their commands. It is equally an indication for the declaration of what is contained in the heart concerning the love of Allah and the regard for His dignity. Do you not see that some groups of people give a regard to false gods which they consider to be more important and more powerful than they are? Such people seek the protection and refuge from those false gods whenever they are distressed. They also call for the aid of such false gods when they are faced with a difficult problem. On certain occasions, they ask for blessings of those false gods. They will then adopt for themselves symbols which they claim remind them of their false gods.
